Requirements

Imagicle UCX Suite requires to be installed on Windows Server OS. Suggested versions are Windows Server 2019/2016/2012 Standard/Datacenter/Essential.

If you have Windows Server 2019/2016/2012 licenses available in your Microsoft agreement, you can use one of those. If you do not have a license and you need to buy a new one, please follow one of the suggestions below.

Purchasing MS Windows Server 2019/2016

Windows Server 2019/2016 Standard edition is licensed per core with a minimum of 16 cores, that are also the max required by the highest virtual machine Imagicle hardware requirements.

So the products to purchase and fitting any Imagicle environment are:

• for 2019 version: 8x Windows Server 2019 2 cores, product code: 9EM-00653;
• for Windows Server 2016: 8x Windows Server 2016 2 cores, product code 9EM-00124.

There’s no need for CAL for Imagicle UCX Suite usage. The Windows Server 2019/2016 Standard Open License can be activated on 1 physical server or up to 2 virtual machines on the same physical server (1 POSE or 2 VOSE). It is not tied to a specific hardware, so it can be moved to a different physical server during its life cycle. The average retail price of the Windows Server 2016 Standard Edition OLP 16 core + 4 CAL is roughly €1.050 in Europe and $1.050 in US/Canada/MEA regions.

Note: If end users have an Enterprise Agreement with Microsoft, typical in medium to large companies, they will probably provide the necessary Windows Server license.

License Downgrade (if needed) of Windows 2019 standard Open License to Windows 2016/2012 R2

If you are running Windows 2016/2012 and you need to purchase a license, you will likely be entitled to purchase the 2019 version only, this means that downgrade is necessary. Imagicle recommends you to buy MS Windows Server 2019/2016 Standard edition Open License, to get access to the Volume licensing program and downgrade to Windows Server 2016/2012 R2.

As the Opens License is part of the Microsoft Volume licensing program, it requires a minimum purchase of 5 items. For this reason we suggest to purchase:

• for 2019 version: 4x Windows Server 2019 1 device CAL, product code: R18-05767;
• for 2016 version: 4x Windows Server 2016 1 device CAL, product code: R18-05121.

Purchasing MS Windows Server 2012 R2 / 2016 Essential OEM

For small environments where OS cost has to be kept at minimum, it is possible to use Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials (product code: G3S-00716 ) or Windows Server 2016 (product code: G3S-01045) from the hardware manufacturer or by purchasing the related product code: G3S-00716, no additional CAL needed.

Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials OEM and Windows Server 2016 Essential OEM licenses can be activated on 1 physical server or 1 virtual machine on the same physical server (1 POSE or 1 VOSE).
The limitation of the OEM version is the association with the hardware it is combined with, that must remain the same during its whole life cycle. As Essentials edition needs to have the Domain Controller role, Imagicle recommends to create a dedicated domain with no member a part the controller.

The average retail price of the OEM Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials or OEM Windows Server 2016 Essential Editions is roughly €350 in Europe and $350 in US/Canada/MEA regions.

Note: Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials or Windows Server 2016 Essential licenses can’t be activated on Imagicle Virtual Appliance. If you plan to use Virtual Appliance, you need one of the Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows Server 2016 Standard Edition versions.
